Fresh RX - Fresh Food Program for Expecting Moms on Medicaid

From the beginning, Community Farmers Market has been committed to finding solutions to provide a better food system for low-income households. This desire was inspired by a special interest in moms-to-be and breastfeeding mothers. Pregnancy is a time in a mother's life that is more likely to successfully introduce fresh food options. Expecting moms on Medicaid in Bowling Green, Kentucky will soon be provided a new fresh food program. Not only will this program increase consumption of fruits and vegetables for 30 households, it will support local farmers and provide necessary data for Medicaid providers in the area. The goal is for this program to expand to other Medicaid participants and eventually be provided through all insurance companies. Food is medicine. when we all work together to make it a priority, lives can be changed and saved.

On a personal note, Community Farmer’s Market has been a special place for me for many years. I’ve met many friends and learned a lot about eating real food through their community and projects. I know going to a new place, meeting new people and trying new foods can be scary, so I want you to know how welcoming this group of people really are. Take the time and make the step to go apply; you won’t regret it!
